ABORA Segelcamp auf Sardinien – Zurück zu den Wurzeln!
(dg) Vom 6. bis 16. Oktober 2025 schlagen wir unser Segelcamp im wunderschönen Alghero (Sardinien) auf. Gemeinsam mit über 32 Vereinsmitgliedern trainieren wir in den „heimischen ABORA-Gewässern“ unsere nautischen Fähigkeiten – in direkter Tradition der großen ABORA-Expeditionen.
Bereits 2016 bereiteten sich hier unsere Crewanwärter für die ABORA IV Expedition vor: im harten Training mit Strömungen, Winden und Gezeiten. Und schon 1999 startete von Sardinien aus unserer allerersten großen Expedition: ABORA I. Mit Schülerinnen und Schülern aus Sachsen bauten wir damals in Fertilla bei Alghero unser 14 Meter langes Schilfboot – drei Jahre lang harte Arbeit, die im legendären Törn über Korsika und Elba nach Piombino gipfelte.
Nun kehren wir zurück nach Sardinien – nicht nur, um zu trainieren, sondern um an unsere gemeinsame Geschichte anzuknüpfen. Dank der Unterstützung unseres langjährigen Freundes und Förderers Cesare Usai (Base Nautica Fertilla) haben wir dort wieder unseren sicheren Ankerplatz. Von hier aus starten wir zu unseren Segelausfahrten, um Wissen, Erfahrung und Teamgeist zu vertiefen.
ABORA segelt weiter – von den Anfängen bis in die Zukunft!
Die DILMUN S segelte schon 2016 mit den Anwärtern der ABORA IV Expedition in der wundervollen Bucht von Alghero auf NW-Sardinien. Hier finden die Aborianer auch im Herbst noch günstige Bedingungen, um ihre Fähigkeiten auf dem Mittelmeer zu trainieren. //

Il DILMUN S ha navigato con i candidati della spedizione ABORA IV nel 2016 nella splendida baia di Alghero, nella Sardegna nord-occidentale. Qui, anche in autunno, gli aboriani trovano ancora condizioni favorevoli per mettere alla prova le loro abilità nel Mediterraneo.
Unsere erste große Expedition in Ungewisse starten wir vor mehr als 26 Jahren mit ABORA I. Von Alghero aus segelte das Floß über Porto Torres und Castelsardo weiter nach Santa Teresa de Gallura, um dann auf die Nachbarinsel Korsika überzusetzten. Wenngleich ABORA I noch nicht perfekt aufgetakelt war, erlaubten uns die Seitenschwerter bis 90° quer zum Wind zu segeln. Ohne diese Fähigkeit wäre ABORA I nicht in der Lage gewesen, die 650 km Navigationsstrecke bis Piombino östlich von Elba zurückzulegen! //
We embarked on our first major expedition into the unknown more than 26 years ago with ABORA I. From Alghero, the raft sailed via Porto Torres and Castelsardo to Santa Teresa de Gallura, before crossing over to the neighboring island of Corsica. Although ABORA I wasn't yet fully rigged, the leeboards allowed us to sail up to 90° across the wind. Without this capability, ABORA I would not have been able to complete the 650 km navigation route to Piombino, east of Elba! //
Abbiamo intrapreso la nostra prima grande spedizione verso l'ignoto più di 26 anni fa con ABORA I. Da Alghero, il gommone ha navigato via Porto Torres e Castelsardo fino a Santa Teresa di Gallura, prima di raggiungere la vicina Corsica. Sebbene ABORA I non fosse ancora completamente armato, le derive ci permettevano di navigare fino a 90° di traverso al vento. Senza questa capacità, ABORA I non sarebbe stato in grado di completare la rotta di navigazione di 650 km fino a Piombino, a est dell'Elba!
Sardinien ist ein unentdeckter Kontinent der Archäologie innerhalb Europas. Neben Stufenpyramiden mesopotamischer Bauart und tausenden megalithischen Türmen (Nuraghen) ist es der letzte Ort in Europa, auf dem heute noch Schilfboote gebaut und sogar benutzt werden. Dieses Bild stammt aus Cabras, wo jedes Jahr am 15. August eine Schilfbootregatta stattfindet. //
Sardinia is an undiscovered archaeological continent within Europe. Along with Mesopotamian-style step pyramids and thousands of megalithic towers (nuraghes), it is the last place in Europe where reed boats are still built and even used today. This picture is from Cabras, where a reed boat regatta takes place every year on August 15th. //
La Sardegna è un continente archeologico inesplorato in Europa. Insieme alle piramidi a gradoni in stile mesopotamico e alle migliaia di torri megalitiche (nuraghi), è l'ultimo luogo in Europa dove le barche di giunco vengono ancora costruite e persino utilizzate oggi. Questa foto è di Cabras, dove ogni anno il 15 agosto si svolge una regata di barche di giunco.
Seit 1997 unterstützt uns der sardische Inhaber der Base Nautica in Fertilla Cesare Usai (rechts neben mir). Er und, der im April 2025 verstorbene Nando Pitallis (links von mir), trugen wesentlich dazu bei, dass das ABORA-Projekt auf Sardinien ins Leben gerufen wurde. Aus diesem Grund kehren wir auch regelmäßig an unsere Wurzeln zurück. //

Mit der Technik von Cesare Usai werden wir in wenigen Tagen unser Schilfreplik zu Wasser lassen und ihr unseren Ankerplatz aufschlagen. ABORA Sailing Camp in Sardinia – Back to Our Roots!
From October 6–16, 2025, we will set up our sailing camp in beautiful Alghero (Sardinia). Together with more than 32 club members, we will train our nautical skills in the “home waters of ABORA” – in direct tradition of the great ABORA expeditions.
Already in 2016, our crew candidates prepared here for the ABORA IV expedition: tough training with currents, strong winds, and tides. And as early as 1999, Sardinia was the starting point of our very first great adventure: ABORA I. Together with students from Saxony, we built our 14-meter reed boat over three years in Fertilla near Alghero – culminating in the legendary voyage via Corsica and Elba to Piombino.
Now we return to Sardinia – not only to train, but also to reconnect with our shared history. Thanks to the support of our long-time friend and sponsor Cesare Usai (Base Nautica Fertilla), we once again have our secure anchorage there. From here we will set out on our sailing excursions to deepen knowledge, experience, and team spirit.
